Top Three: Chocolate Bars

3. Skor

2. Crispy Crunch

**drum roll**

1. Crunchie

Mixed in a blizzard or the much preferred TCBY Shiver, however, and the order would be in reverse, with Skor ranking number one. Oh yea. Skor.

Fourth runner up--should number three not be able to fulfill her duties--is the Cadbury Premium Dark.

You?

I'm totally with you with the Crunchie but i think my other two top choices would be something like ... a mars, and possibly a mr. big (due to it's size and therefore weight of chocolate per dollar spent ... it's always about value with me) ... but my choices may change at random depending on my mood and numerous other factors!

Fingers ... you can count on me to post first when discussing any type of chocolate/candy topic :)

I eat a chocolate bar maybe once every six months. But if I had to choose it would defintely be
1) Mars Bar
2) 3 Musketeer
3) Coffee crisp

Okay, I get the Mars. I understand. It's weighty... Substantial. But I'd take an O'Henry over a Mr. Big, just because you can eat the chocolate and peanuts first and then the nouget center.

But Three Musketeer?! Seriously? I think I'd rank a Three Musketeer about as high as a Big Turk... There's just no "WOW" factor. You know? Hmm... I'm going to have to revisit the Three Musketeer, I think. Maybe I'm missing something.

I also must admit I love a good musketeers ... i think it's because it's light (or maybe it's an illusion but it just doesn't make you feel as bad as if you ate a mars ... crazy i am!) ... and i'd also eat an o'henry ... but i do like the wafer in a mr. big .. so many chocolate bars not enough time!

Fingers!

I once knew a girl (although I won't mention her name because I don't want to embarrass her *coughNewMommycough*) who insisted what we're classifying as "chocolate bars" are actually "candy bars".

Disucuss.

chocolate and candy are very different ... a candy bar could be one of those large toosties or possible a macintoish carmel bars but I believe a candy bar contains loads of sugar but no cocoa ... but that is just one opinion.

Fingers!

She's a genius, and that's why I love her:

"Yes, MacIntosh would definitely be a candy bar. This type of case is the only appropriate time to use the term "candy bar" - it is candy, there is no chocolate product involved, and is in bar form.

The Reese's Cup and York Patty do pose complex, yet not insurmountable, obstacles in the ongoing categorization and definition of non-chip snack foods. There are a few directions we could go here. Each item has already described itself as a "Cup" or "Patty". These qualifiers could, in fact, be construed as the definition of the item, opening up the field to the York and Reese people to possibly create "cups" and "patties" that do not involve peanut butter or mint...stuff. Definitely NOT chocolate bars due to size and shape. However, they do contain chocolate bar characteristics, namely, chocolate. Because in recent years the "mini chocolate bar" phenom has emerged outside of the Hallowe'en playing field, the argument could be made that the Reese's Cup and York Patty are, in fact, mini chocolate bars. But this is unsatisfactory for me, especially as the RC and YPP have been around much longer than mini bars.

If I were to classify Junior Mints, I would call them candy, due to size and contents, but also because I feel that when you venture into mint territory, you are most certainly placing yourself in the "candy" camp. Mint and chocolate do not "meld" flavour-wise - they are equally strong contenders, but due to the completely different nature of each, they complement each other, rather than clash or cancel each other out. You taste the chocolate going down, but the mint stays with you. In fact, they are not equal - mint is the one flavour that can overtake chocolate in staying power, and because it leaves a fresheness behind, even when it is full of sugar. For this reason, I would have to say that the York Peppermint Patty is first and foremost "candy", but definitely not a bar.

Junior caramels would also be candy, due to size and contents. However, flavours such as caramel and peanut butter, while strong and very much "their own flavour," cannot compete with the timelessness and strength of chocolate. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge caramel and peanut butter fan, regardless of chocolate. But they all have that same "sweetness," and so I think items containing both caramel and chocolate (such as a Caramilk bar) must be defined by the chocolate. When you purchase a chocolate bar, you are thinking chocolate - the rest of the stuff defines the "type" of chocolate bar, but if you are eating them, you were craving chocolate of some form.

However, when you eat a Reese Cup, you are craving something very specific. A taste sensation, as well as the novelty of three cups, each one more delicious than the last. I feel the Reese Peanut Butter Cup stands in its own category as a genius invention that defies categorization, and in turn, mundanity.

White chocolate = candy.

In closing, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read and think about my chocolate opinions. I hope they will be of some use to you in categorizing future snack foods. Of course, these are only my opnions, and I am always open to healthy discussion.

Yours,

Pants"

And this hasn't even touched on her thoughts concerning the use of a chocolate box map.

Yeah I like chocolate and peanut butter together...so in no particular order.

Reese Peanut Butter Cups (even though some do not consider them chocolate bars)
Wonder Bar
Chrispy Crunch

But it really depends on my mood. Cuz I also like skor and snickers and coffee crisp and oh henry
and ... basically you show me a chocolate bar and i'll probably eat it.

Hey! Even though I know I would not win a debate on whether a bar made of chocolate could be called a candybar, I stand by my use of the term. And I'm proud of it! And you know why? Because it sounds better! I hate the word chocolate bar, just like I hate the work pop (as in soda pop) and panties. Not that I'm passionate about it. That being said, I love this posting topic and would like to list my three.... I can't. There's too damn many. Twix and Snickers are up there, followed very closely by KitKat, 3 Musketeers and Peanut M&M's. The only bars that I'd never buy would be Big Turk (I can't believe you compared a 3 Muskatereers to Big Turk), and Smarties.

Love,
New Mommy

Pfft. Smarties? Who DOESN'T choose Smarties. Man... I just tried to buy Smarties in bulk at the Bulk Barn (a miracle store you don't have out West) and it nearly cost me $8.00. Needless to say I put them back. If I couldn't have the whole bag I scooped out of the giant bin, I just didn't want to take 'em. Gawd, I lurrrve Smarties. I once ate so many I got cancurs.

Panties. Panties. Panties.

Now there's an interesting thought. Can we in fact classify snacks such as Smarties and M&M's as chocolate bars? They're certainly not bars due to their size and shape, as Pants has so wisely pointed out, but they are primarily chocolate. But the chocolate's on the inside, encased in a candy coating.

On second thought, perhaps this is all beside the point, because when you go into a store, all of these items are shelved in the same spot. They therefore have some sort of common, defining characteristic, despite their differences, that makes them into a collection. Perhaps we should call them "sweet, bar-shaped packages containing some form, to a greater or lesser extent, of chocolatey goodness".

Having said that, here are my faves:
1) Twix
2) Snickers
3) Coffee Crisp

um, actually let me change that.
1) Wunder Bar
2) Skor
3) Reese Peanut Butter Cups

Although I really love Rolo and Junior Caramels as well...

Okay. I can't decide. But one thing I do hate is chocolate and mint. I don't think those things go together at all. I'm not totally disgusted by it, I'll eat it if there's nothing else around (chocolate is chocolate after all), but there's no way I'd waste money on it. Yuck.

Ohmagawd.

You people surprise me.

CHOCOLATEANDMINTBELONGTOGETHER!!! Violette, come to Ontari-ari-o, and I will purchase you a Mint Melt Away from Walkers and you will love it and you will in fact, melt away... It's love in tiny cube form.

p.s. I rank Twix with the Three Musketeer and Big Turk. Such a waste of the calories.
